Promoting Health Equity in the Armenia D4I Counter-Trafficking in Persons (C-TIP) Activity On December 6, 2022, Data for Impact (D4I) hosted the second webinar in a series focusing on health equity in global health monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL). This webinar focused on the promotion of health equity in D4I’s counter-trafficking in persons (C-TIP) work in Armenia. Health equity is achieved when everyone has a fair opportunity to live the healthiest life possible. This requires development approaches that are responsive to differences in peoples’ experiences based on gender, race, socioeconomic status, and other factors. MEL plays a critical role in fostering equitable global health programs and policies. High-quality data can help stakeholders better understand current health inequities, promote equity-sensitive program approaches, measure progress towards equity, support accountability for equity, and raise awareness about actions that affect health equity. Human trafficking is a crime that is on the rise and governments are increasingly prioritizing activities related to national security, economic stability, and migration to respond to common types of trafficking. Access to health care is also vital, as victims of trafficking suffer physical, sexual, and psychological abuse. There is an urgent call for a multisectoral approach in creating lasting solutions to reduce trafficking through prevention, protection, prosecution, partnerships, and policy. The USAID-funded D4I project in Armenia is working with the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs in leadership and coordination to strengthen the country’s counter-trafficking response. In October 2021, D4I began working in Armenia to help the Government address drivers of trafficking by establishing monitoring and oversight systems. Evidence-based strategies for human trafficking and exploitation of persons’ can be enhanced through monitoring and oversight system improvements, evaluations to document key lessons learned, identifying promising practices, and consolidating critical knowledge that can improve current and future C-TIP interventions, to promote expansion of service for victims and help prevent future victims of human trafficking.
