D4I conducted an assessment of the Zimbabwe Assistance Program in Malaria (ZAPIM), a United States President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) funded project. ZAPIM strengthened the capacity of the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) to prevent and treat malaria and work toward the NMCP’s 2016–2020 Strategic Plan goals. The assessment team included multiple D4I consortium partners along with the Zimbabwe-based research and evaluation firm, M-Consulting Group.

D4I’s assessment used quantitative methods to analyze existing routine and other secondary data sources and qualitative methods to identify strengths and areas to improve NMCP’s current capacity to manage and implement malaria interventions. The results provided guidance to PMI and USAID Zimbabwe to make decisions on appropriate strategies to strengthen NMCP capacity and to choose interventions best suited for PMI support.
