D4I supported locally led research through the Small Grants Program. In Afghanistan, D4I funded a small research grant to the Organization for Research and Community Development (ORCD) and provided ongoing one-on-one technical assistance to the sub-grantee team which was led by Manizha Faqir. The researchers analyzed the 2018 Afghanistan Household Survey to understand regional variations in family planning use.  Factors affecting unmet need for modern contraceptive use across all regions of Afghanistan were assessed. The research provided an estimate of the level of unmet need for family planning both provincially and regionally.

Small Research Grants Program

D4I funded four research teams in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Nigeria with small grants and provided ongoing technical assistance in primary and secondary data collection, data analysis, and data dissemination. Results from these studies were disseminated to stakeholders where the research can inform and influence policies and programs.
